STABILIZATION

Diesels obtained through cracking are unstable. With time, or when exposed to air, they produce gums and polymers which are harmful to equipment when combusted. In refineries, unstable products are hydrotreated to stabilize and desulfurize them. This is expensive in both capital and operating costs.

Another method for stabilizing cracked hydrocarbons is a liquid-liquid extraction process. This involves putting the unstable product in contact with a particular solvent to stabilize it, separating the two liquids to obtain a stable fuel and regenerating the solvent back to its original form. The problem with this method is that, when using a pure solvent, it has to be completely regenerated which is very expensive.

Sweet Gazoil™ has patented a liquid-liquid extraction process to stabilize the cracked products that works best with a used solvent that has not been completely regenerated. Since the solvent does not need to be pure, operational costs are low. Not only does it stabilize the products, but it also reduces its sulphur content, dries it, improves its TAN (total acid number), reduces the sediments it contains, and increases its cetane number.
